feb14Nothing inspires Romance more than the music of Spain, especially when the played on the magical guitars of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. For a very special Valentine’s Day celebration, the Laguna Beach Music Festival presents LAGQ playing some of their most popular Spanish pieces, including “Evening in Granada” by Debussy, Fandango by Boccherini, and their beautiful arrangement of Carmen by Bizet. As a special treat, LAGQ will be joined by a troupe of fabulous dancers, “L.A. Flamenco”, and mesmerizing mezzo-soprano Janelle DeStefano to stage a dramatic production of Manuel de Falla's ballet “El Amor Brujo”. feb15Immerse yourself in the Words and Music of the Time of Cervantes, when LAGQ and Phil Proctor come together to bring Don Quixote to life! Capturing the high comedy, pathos and self-reflexive surrealism of the world’s most popular novel, this innovative production takes listeners into the phantasmic world of the famous Knight of La Mancha. With projected images and lighting highlighting LAGQ’s brilliant arrangements of music from Spain’s Golden Age, the result is inspired story-telling in its most elevated form. Phil Proctor (celebrated actor/comedian from the popular “Firesign Theatre troupe) will put his vocal virtuosity on display as he embodies over a dozen different characters in a script adapted by LAGQ member William Kanengiser.  Premiered in 2008 with John Cleese (of Monty Python fame), LAGQ has toured this entrancing work with Phil Proctor for six years, and filmed a live performance of it at the Sheldon Theatre in St. Louis for Mel Bay Recordings. Weaving together live narration and music into a unique sonic atmosphere, it’s a multi-media show that has transported and delighted audiences around the US.  Don’t miss it!
