The 2017 Laguna Beach Music Festival kicks off with the Festival Prelude, a special evening celebrating the Festival’s 15th anniversary and years of showcasing outstanding musical talent. Prelude guests will be entertained by the Festival’s stellar alumni, including Angela Ahn, the Calder Quartet, Stan Freese, and 2017 Festival Artistic Director Johannes Moser.

Seven Degrees is an award-winning venue framed by the sweeping canyons of Laguna Beach while hosting a distinctive space, both indoors and out, for this delightful evening.

Johannes Moser, cello 

Hailed by Gramophone Magazine as "one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists," German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser is gaining increasing renown for his efforts to expand the reach of the classical genre, as well as his passionate focus on new music. Johannes Moser was a recipient of the prestigious 2014 Brahms prize, and his recordings have earned him two ECHO Klassik awards and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

Winners of the 2014 Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Los Angeles-based Calder Quartet has been called “outstanding” and “superb” by the New York Times. The quartet is known for the discovery, commissioning, recording and mentoring of some of today’s best emerging composers (more 25 commissioned works to date), and is the choice of many leading composers to perform their works, including Christopher Rouse, Terry Riley and Thomas Adès. The quartet appeared at the 2011 Laguna Beach Music Festival alongside Joshua Bell and Edgar Meyer.
