The Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet served as the Laguna Beach Music Festival's Artistic Director in 2015 and returns this year to open the Festival's silver jubilee! Formed in 1980 at the University of Southern California, the ensemble is known for pushing the boundaries of traditional classical guitar and is credited with introducing the 7-string guitar into standard quartet formations.

This star-studded evening features Ray Chen (2020 Artistic Director), Joyce Yang (2019 Artistic Director), and the acclaimed Calder Quartet, a beloved festival ensemble whose appearances in 2003 and 2017 have made them an enduring part of the festival's legacy. Together, these celebrated artists create an unforgettable evening of chamber music.

The anniversary celebration continues with festival favorites Angella Ahn and Aubree Oliverson, joined by an exceptional roster of guest artists for an evening highlighted by Felix Mendelssohn's radiant String Octet, Op. 20. Composed in 1825 when Mendelssohn was just 16 years old, this astonishing masterpiece brims with youthful brilliance and was shaped by the literary influence of Goethe, whom Mendelssohn befriended as a young prodigy. 

The festival's 25th Anniversary culminates in a thrilling finale featuring the Junction Trio—Conrad Tao (2021 Artistic Director), Stefan Jackiw (2026 Artistic Director), and Jay Campbell—alongside Joyce Yang, the Calder Quartet, Angella Ahn, and Aubree Oliverson. Showcasing Caroline Shaw’s Entr'acte, Tchaikovsky’s String Sextet in D minor, Op. 70, “Souvenir de Florence," and additional works by Andrew Norman and Robert Schumann, this dynamic closing program celebrates the artistry, collaboration, and musical spirit that have defined the Laguna Beach Music Festival for 25 years.
